Thematic Maps

These maps provide more specific information about key humanitarian sectors.  They have been developed from data provided by UN agencies, NGOs and other humanitarian actors.  These maps are intended to help you to better understand the humanitarian situation within Iraq.

Demographics
There are two datasets available the map the is showing population distribution in Iraq on a grid of 1x1 sqkm, the Landscan Population Data map and data from the 1997 census in Iraq showing the population per district in total, the rural population and the urban population.

Food
Only two real maps are in this section. A third one about the WFP food distribution areas and centers in Baghdad is in production and to be expected soon. The JPGs show some very high-resolution satellite imagery covering Grain storage facilities.

Fuel and Energy
The pipeline, pumping stations, refineries and power line maps are based on vector data that is not up to date, so they should be used carefully.
The fuel and LPG stations in Babylon have been located by UN Joint Logistics Centre (JLC). Their position on the map is indicated just roughly as the source was a hand drawn map.

Internally Displaced  People (IDPs)
In this section you can find periodically updated maps about the number of IDPs reported by IOM (International Office of Migration) on the administrative level of district.
The IDP location maps for the three northern Governorates are from April, we keep them to show a different way of visualizing such kind of information.

Refugee
These maps show a periodically update of the Third Country Nationals (TCN), that were flee from Iraq into the neighboring countries after the war started. The numbers have been provided by International Office of Migration (IOM), but do not get updated any longer.

Transport
The most up to data road network of primary routes in Iraq including road numbers is available in this section. The main rail network is also visualized but stays on purpose a bit in the background. Hopefully we can add more data about more detailed rail network, airports and harbors to this section soon.
In the moment the Governorate maps under the Geographic - Topographic map section contain all airports showing also the runway surface conditions. Another good source for airports are the Tactical Pilot Charts under Geographic Maps.

Water
3 maps produced by FAO showing Water quality and quantity monitoring systems in the three northern Governorates Dahuk, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
