  National Voter Registration Update 2009
 Voter Registration Update Procedures-2009
IHEC released two official statements on 22 August, announcing the start of the National Voter Registration Update 2009.
In preparation for the elections to the Council of Representatives in January 2010 the Independent High Electoral Commission opened 1079 Voter Registration Update Centres on Saturday, 22 August, compared to 550 VRCs for the Governorate Council elections.

The IHEC’s Chief Electoral Officer Judge Qassim Aboodi stated that to this date the IHEC succeeded in distribution of more than 56% of Voter Information cards throughout Iraq, and the process is ongoing. He urged all Iraqi voters to visit VRCs and verify their details in order to be able to exercise their right to vote in the CoR.

The second IHEC statement confirms the opening of the 1079 VRCs and the working hours (8.00 – 16.00), and invites the voters to check their details and find the Polling Centres via Call Centre (7777), IHEC website (www.ihec.iq <http://www.ihec.iq> and SMS (phone #07908888888).
The IHEC also confirmed that in order to be able to vote on Election Day a voter’s name has to be found on the Voter List in a Polling Centre where he/she is assigned to vote. All voters are encouraged to check/change their details and identify their Polling Centre (including absentee voting), in order to be able to vote in January 2010.

Up to date the IHEC has distributed over 12 million Voter Information Cards (VICs) or 65% of the total to registered voters across the country; the distribution will continue during the VRU period.
