Baghdad, Iraq 15.02.2017: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has welcomed the announcement of nearly $17m in extra funding for its work by the Government of Japan. The funding will allow UNHCR to expand the provision of emergency items, shelter and cash assistance to Iraqi families displaced from Mosul conflict and to Syrian refugees.

3 February 2017 Iraq - IOM Iraq Chief of Mission Thomas Lothar Weiss visited Kerbala and Najaf governorates in central Iraq this week, to meet with local authorities, review joint humanitarian efforts, and discuss the needs of internally displaced Iraqis and host communities.

Iraq, 31 January 2017 - Over 20,300 displaced Iraqis are now taking shelter at Al-Qayara emergency site and 1,770 at Haj Ali emergency site,

Iraq, 20 January 2017 - Al-Qayara emergency site in Ninewa governorate, Iraq, constructed by IOM in cooperation with the Ministry of Displacement and Migration (MoMD), is now hosting 18,543 individuals (3,224 families), all of whom fled their homes due to military operations in the Mosul corridor.

17 January 2017 Iraq - IOM’s work in community stabilization is assisting Iraqis affected by displacement and conflict to generate their own income and engage in meaningful work. This past week, IOM provided 47 displaced Iraqis with business support packages in Risafa, Baghdad. This livelihood assistance was funded by the Government of Canada and supported by the Risafa Local Council and the Baghdad Provincial Council.

29 December 2016 – Nine-year-old Heba fled Hawija district in Kirkuk, Iraq, with her parents and 3 brothers almost 2 months ago and has been living in Daquq camp in Kirkuk since. “We lived under ISIL for more than 2 years,” said Heba’s mother. “We left because there was no food left to buy but bread. We were hungry, and we were scared for our lives from the constant airstrikes.”

29 December 2016 – ROME/BAGHDAD – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of US$7.1 million from Denmark to provide emergency food assistance for thousands of Iraqi families affected by the continuing crisis in Mosul.

Iraq, 20 December 2016 - The Government of Kuwait has donated USD 4 million to support IOM’s assistance to Iraqis displaced by military operations in Mosul.

Baghdad, 23 December 2016 – Nearly two-thirds of the more than 60,000 displaced Iraqis who have fled Hawiga since an intensification of military operations to retake the district from armed groups in August have been provided with emergency assistance and shelter by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
