The SRSG condemns in the strongest terms the assassination of newly elected Member of Parliament

Baghdad, 25 May 2010 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Ad Melkert, condemned in the strongest terms the assassination of newly elected Member of Parliament, Bashar Al-Ouqeidi who was shot dead in Mosul.

 

Mr. Melkert extends his sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Al-Ouqeidi and urges Iraqi authorities to pursue the perpetrators and bring them to justice. He also expressed his confidence that such a "despicable act" will not deter Iraq’s resolve to swiftly seat in the Parliament and form a new government.
