UN Special Representative Condemns Cowardly Terrorist Attack in Heet, Urges Authorities to Ensure Security of Political Forces, Candidates and Voters During Election Campaign

Baghdad, Iraq, 8 April 2018 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist suicide bombings which targeted the offices of the Al-Hal political party in the city of Heet in Anbar Governorate and caused a number of casualties, including lightly injuring a female candidate running for the Council of Representatives elections.



The Special Representative expresses condolences for the families of the dead and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

Mr. Kubiš calls on the Iraqi authorities to ensure the security of the political forces, representatives, the candidates and the voters in the runup to the 12 May elections, and urges extra vigilant during the coming period to foil the terrorists’ continuing attempts to undermine peace and stability.
