BAGHDAD, 6 March 2018 – The Government of Japan announced a new assistance package from its supplementary budget of 2017 to assist the Republic of Iraq. With a combined total of USD 6.3 million, the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) will be implementing two projects aimed at enhancing the living conditions and safety of the Iraqi population, in particular those living in the newly liberated areas.

Baghdad; Iraq. 06 March 2018 – On 6 March, the Government of Iraq as well as the United Nations and its partners launched their 2018 plans for Iraq – the Plan for Relief, Shelter and Stabilization of Displaced People and the Humanitarian Response Plan.

(Baghdad/New York, 05 March 2018): The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Ms. Pramila Patten, concluded an eight-day visit to Iraq during which she heard first-hand the heart wrenching accounts of survivors of Daesh’s sexual violence. She stressed the need to ensure that survivors of conflict-related sexual violence are fully protected and that perpetrators of these horrendous crimes are brought to justice.

Iraq – As the pace of return of displaced Iraqis to areas of origin has accelerated in recent months, the Government of Japan is supporting IOM, the UN Migration Agency, with new funds to stabilize conflict-affected communities in Iraq and support the sustainable reintegration of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Baghdad, 26 February 2018— Although the immediate violence has come to an end, the needs of children in Iraq remain immense – 4 million children need assistance.

Baghdad, 26 February 2018: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, welcomes new pledges from the people of Japan. Some US$ 19 million is pledged for 2018, amounting to $15 million to protect and assist displaced and returning Iraqis, and $4 million for the Syrian refugee response. Since the start of the recent conflict in Iraq in 2014, Japan has generously donated $73 million to UNHCR, supporting vital assistance to millions of people forced to flee their homes by conflict.

Baghdad, Date 22 February 2018: Some 700 families in Mosul whose homes were destroyed in the recent conflict now have a new place to live. Temporary housing units were set up in 26 neighbourhoods in the west of the city, which saw extensive destruction in the battle to retake the city from extremist control.

Baghdad, Iraq, February 20, 2018—IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, and the Central Bank of Iraq are launching a series of specialized workshops, starting today, to raise corporate governance standards in Iraqi banks and strengthen the country’s banking sector.

Kuwait – As the recent Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq came to a close, IOM, the UN Migration Agency, reported that internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Iraq continue to return home by the thousands.

Kirkuk, 20 February 2018 – Iraqis who have been displaced by recent conflict have an inalienable right to vote, and they should be enabled to participate in the upcoming poll and have a voice in charting the future of their country, the UN Deputy Special Representative for Iraq emphasised during a visit today to a temporary camp for the displaced in Kirkuk.
