BAGHDAD 3 October 2018 – A contribution of US$1.5 million from the Republic of Korea will enable the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to provide cash assistance to some 68,000 vulnerable displaced Iraqis through electronic cash cards and mobile money transfers.

Baghdad, Iraq, 3 October 2018 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, welcomes the designation of Mr. Adel Abdel-Mahdi to form Iraq’s next government. Just as the United Nations supported Iraq during the difficult fight against the terrorist Da’esh, the UN reiterates its support for the Iraqi people as they build a new future of peace, stability and prosperity.

Kalar, Iraq, 01 October 2018 – Journalists, media workers and civil society activists have completed a training course on the rights to freedom of opinion and expression and the importance of responsible journalism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The training was delivered by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office (HRO) in Kalar city in the Garmiyan Administration of Sulaymaniyah governorate.

Baghdad, 30 September 2018 – The European Union (EU) has contributed EUR 3 million to provide vulnerable children with lifesaving assistance, including safe drinking water, health services, quality education and psychosocial support to alleviate toxic stress from prolonged exposure to violence.

The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Abdulkarim Al-Jafari, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq. The Secretary-General appreciated the high level of cooperation between the United Nations and Iraq, including on counter-terrorism and accountability efforts.

Baghdad, 27 September 2018 – the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has contributed $750,000 USD to assist vulnerable Iraqis in Basra in getting access to clean water. This contribution will be used to install five pumps, rehabilitate an existing water treatment plant, and maintain water treatment projects which will bring clean and safe water to an estimated 750,000 people.

Erbil, Iraq; 27 September 2018 - A new commitment from the Republic of Korea will support UNFPA in strengthening services to address sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence in Iraq, to meet the complex needs of women and girls as the country recovers from three years of conflict.

Erbil, Iraq; 26 September 2018 - Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) can now dial “119” to receive support, counselling, and referrals to community-based services and resources in the region.
