Baghdad, 9 October 2011- The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Mr. Martin Kobler, began a series of visits to Iraqi senior government officials with a meeting held today with Foreign Affairs Minister Hoshyar Zebari.

Baghdad, 8 October 2011- The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Mr. Martin Kobler, has arrived today to the Mission’s Headquarters in Baghdad to take up his duties.

Baghdad, 25 September 2011- The Acting head of UNAMI/Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Iraq, Jerzy Skuratowicz , strongly condemns today’s terrorist attacks that targeted government buildings in Kerbala and resulted in the killing of dozens of people and injuring many others.

On the occasion of International Day of Peace

Baghdad, 29 August 2011: Over the past few years the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq and the High Commissioner for Human Rights have been closely monitoring the situation in Camp Ashraf, exploring possible assistance in reaching a resolution that is consistent with Iraq\'s sovereignty rights and international law.

Baghdad, 29 August 2011: On the occasion of the Muslim Eid El-Fitr that marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan and on behalf of the United Nations in Iraq, I would like to extend my best wishes to the Government and the people of Iraq.

Baghdad, 15 August 2011 -- The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ad Melkert, strongly condemns today’s series of terrorist attacks in a number of cities across Iraq, which have claimed the lives of dozens of victims and wounded many more. He extends his condolences to the families of the victims as well as the Government of Iraq and his wishes for the full and speedy recovery for the injured.

 

BAGHDAD/GENEVA, 8 August 2011 – A UN report into the human rights situation in Iraq over the course of 2010 has warned that armed violence and “silent” human rights violations continue to affect large sectors of the population.

 

New York, 5 August 2011 - United Nations Secretary-General BAN Ki-moon today announced his intention to appoint Mr. Martin Kobler of Germany as his Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).  He will replace Ad Melkert of the Netherlands who served in Iraq since July 2009. The Secretary-General is grateful for Mr. Melkert’s leadership of UNAMI in implementing its mandate under Security Council resolution 1770 (2007) and subsequent resolutions.
