Erbil, 5 August 2014 – The reported deaths of 40 children from minority groups who were displaced from Sinjar city and district by armed violence are of extreme concern.

Erbil, 6 April 2014 – A regional conference supported by UNICEF on positive discipline at home and in school has recommended the conduct of a comprehensive study for defining a positive discipline model specific to Iraq.

Baghdad, 6 April 2014 – The Iraqi Ministry of Health, with the support of UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO), will conduct a round of National Immunization Days between the 6th and 10th of April in response to an outbreak of polio in the country and the Middle East. The vaccination campaign aims to reach all of the 5.6 million children between 0 and 5 years of age across Iraq with two drops of the oral polio vaccine (OPV), including in refugee camps, host communities and settlements. WHO is supporting the operation cost together with UNICEF and will be conducting an independent monitoring of this and subsequent campaigns.

ERBIL, 7 October 2013 – “A suicide bomb attack yesterday on a primary school in Tal Afar in northern Iraq left at least 10 children and their teachers dead and many others injured.

In Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Parliament formally ratified the Child Protection Law on 28 July 2013. This important protection law seeks to improve the lifestyle of Kurdish children.  The long awaited ratification of the treaty, which demands protection of children’s rights, came after a long discussion among Kurdish law makers on Sunday. According to the law, this is the duty of government to enhance citizen’s understanding of child rights, and to deal with child labor that the region is facing.
