Baghdad, Iraq, 16 March 2017 – As more people flee the current fighting in the West of Mosul city reaching around 97,000 individuals, UNFPA is stepping up efforts to meet their reproductive health needs and gender-based violence concerns.

14 March 2017 – Five months after Al-Qayyara Hospital in Mosul was forced to close down due to extensive damages, the facility has been re-opened to provide trauma care and obstetric services to populations affected by the ongoing conflict. The hospital, which re-opened on 7 March, will respond to increasing health needs of people fleeing their homes in West Mosul, as military operations to retake the city continue.

Iraq - In the midst of ongoing operations in Mosul, the Government of Japan is providing USD 6.7 million to IOM to support its humanitarian response to displacement in Iraq.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has opened Chamakor camp – its latest camp opened in response to the surge in displacement triggered by the government offensive to recapture Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul.

BAGHDAD, 22 February 2017 – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has welcomed a contribution of US$7 million from the Government of Japan, which will be used to provide vital food assistance to thousands of Iraqi families affected by the ongoing crisis in Mosul as well as Syrian refugees living in camps in Iraq.

17 February 2017, Iraq - As military operations to retake Mosul intensify, concerns mount that these operations may displace additional tens of thousands of civilians – beyond the 160,000-plus individuals currently categorized as “displaced” in the Mosul region after four months of combat.
