Baghdad, 15 November 2016 — A UNICEF-led multi-agency humanitarian convoy was on Sunday the first to enter the Iraqi city of Mosul together with WFP and UNFPA.

15 November 2016, Iraq - The total number of individuals currently displaced in the Mosul emergency now tops 56,400 according to data released today (15/11) by IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Tracking. Since military operations to retake Mosul from ISIL began last month, IOM Iraq tracking shows population movement away from the combat zone has more than doubled in the past ten days, from 22,224 on 4 November to 56,412 last night.

A new initiative is being launched today (Tuesday 15 November) aiming to help families who’ve been newly-displaced as a result of the Mosul offensive get easier access to accurate and timely information.

Iraq, 11 November 2016 - An IOM Iraq mobile medical team based in Erbil travelled to the sprawling Hasan Sham camp for Iraqis displaced by the fighting near Mosul every day this week, visiting a facility that has swelled to over 1,700 families (10,200 individuals) since October 17, when military operations in Mosul began.

GENEVA (11 November 2016) – As mass graves and further evidence of sexual exploitation of women and girls, torture and killings, child recruitment and other grave human rights abuses committed by ISIL in Iraq come to light, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein has called for immediate action to ensure that the rights and the needs of victims and survivors are met – including, crucially, the need for justice, truth and reconciliation.

New York, 10 November 2016 - Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq Mr. Ján Kubiš briefed the UN Security Council on the situation in Iraq on 09 November 2016, reporting steady progress in the military campaign to liberate Mosul and Ninewa from Daesh’s control despite the enormous challenges of protecting civilians that are made all the more difficult by the terrorists’ use of tens of thousands of innocent residents as human shields.

8 November 2016, Iraq - IOM Iraq today (08/11) reports its displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Tracking identified 34,860 displaced Iraqis from Mosul and adjacent districts – up from 34,038 reported Monday – since military operations to retake Mosul began on 17 October, with significant population movements seen this past weekend.

7 November 2016: Iraq - On 5 November, IOM Director General William Lacy Swing visited two emergency sites that are being established by IOM Iraq at Qayara Airstrip and Haj Ali, both in Ninewa Governorate east of Mosul. These sites are being constructed to shelter displaced Iraqis from Mosul.

(Baghdad 5 November 2016): As the military campaign to oust the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) from northern Iraq intensifies, the United Nations is deeply concerned by the plight of civilians in conflict areas including the tragic deaths of 18 displaced people from Hawiga in Kirkuk Governorate reportedly killed on Friday when roadside bombs destroyed the truck they were being transported in by Iraqi Security Forces (ISF).
