Paris, 18 July—UNESCO organized yesterday a consultation with Iraqi and international cultural heritage experts and agreed on an Emergency Response Action Plan to safeguard Iraq’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.

Erbil, Iraq, 18.07.2014 — The High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres warned today that Iraq “risks moving into full-fledged sectarian war and complete fragmentation” as Iraqis continue to flee their homes and minority groups are trapped and targeted. Iraqi politicians and the international community are “running out of time to act,” he said. 

Baghdad, 19 July 2014 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, today met for more than two hours the Supreme Religious Authority in Najaf, Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani.

Garmawa, 9 July 2014 – Dr. Jacqueline Badcock, Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Iraq and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, visited today the Governorate of Dohuk as well as the Garmawa transit site for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).  Dohuk has seen an influx of over 200,000 displaced people in the last two weeks. 

Geneva 9 July 2014: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) today welcomed the generous contribution of US$9.5 million from the State of Kuwait to UN humanitarian agencies and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) responding to the deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Iraq.
