ERBIL, Iraq – United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director Ertharin Cousin on Wednesday ended a two-day visit to Iraq, after meeting families who have fled from the violence in Mosul and holding high-level talks with the Kurdistan Regional Government and other officials.

Under the slogan “No to Sectarianism…Yes to Iraq’s Unity”, the Iraqi Women Journalists’ Forum (IWMF) launched its anti-sectarianism campaign during its 19th media salon session on 22 June 2014.

Baghdad, 22 June 2014 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the World Health Organization (WHO) strongly condemn the attacks on health facilities in Iraq and express concern about their serious implications on medical personnel, patients and health infrastructure.

20 June 2014 - I am deeply concerned about the humanitarian situation for hundreds of thousands of women, children and men in Iraq who have been forced from their homes by the recent upsurge in violent conflict.

Paris, 17 June - The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, has expressed concern as an upsurge of violence causes renewed human suffering and loss of life in Iraq.  She fears that cultural heritage will be looted and destroyed, just as it was several years ago in Iraq and again during the recent tragic events affecting Syria.

The Secretary-General reiterates his condemnation of the recent upsurge of violence in Iraq at the hands of terrorist groups including the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Reports of mass summary executions by ISIL are deeply disturbing and underscore the urgency of bringing the perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
