Baghdad, Iraq, 16 March 2017 – As more people flee the current fighting in the West of Mosul city reaching around 97,000 individuals, UNFPA is stepping up efforts to meet their reproductive health needs and gender-based violence concerns.

14 March 2017 – Five months after Al-Qayyara Hospital in Mosul was forced to close down due to extensive damages, the facility has been re-opened to provide trauma care and obstetric services to populations affected by the ongoing conflict. The hospital, which re-opened on 7 March, will respond to increasing health needs of people fleeing their homes in West Mosul, as military operations to retake the city continue.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, has opened Chamakor camp – its latest camp opened in response to the surge in displacement triggered by the government offensive to recapture Iraq’s second largest city, Mosul.

(Baghdad, 4 March 2017): The Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq, Lise Grande, expressed shock at reports of alleged use today of chemical weapons in Iraq’s Mosul neighbourhoods.

3 March 2016 – Following the reported use of chemical weapons agents in East Mosul, Iraq, WHO, partners and local health authorities have activated an emergency response plan to safely treat men, women and children who may be exposed to the highly toxic chemicals.
