23rd November 2016 – Erbil – On a UN Women emergency mission near eastern Mosul, the destruction of the war against ISIL was evident through numerous destroyed homes, shops, and deserted land for what used to be a thriving community filled with livelihood activities.

With tens of thousands of families in newly retaken areas urgently requiring life-saving assistance, the humanitarian community in Iraq faces a massive scope of need. These latest developments further exacerbate a humanitarian crisis in a country where 10 million people already were in need of aid.

15 November 2016, Iraq - The total number of individuals currently displaced in the Mosul emergency now tops 56,400 according to data released today (15/11) by IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Emergency Tracking. Since military operations to retake Mosul from ISIL began last month, IOM Iraq tracking shows population movement away from the combat zone has more than doubled in the past ten days, from 22,224 on 4 November to 56,412 last night.

A new initiative is being launched today (Tuesday 15 November) aiming to help families who’ve been newly-displaced as a result of the Mosul offensive get easier access to accurate and timely information.
