The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attacks on 14 September in Thi-Qar province in southern Iraq. He expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the Government and people of Iraq.

Baghdad, 29 August 2017 – The Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), Gyorgy Busztin, condemns in the strongest terms the two terrorist bombings in Baghdad on Monday, 28 August 2017, that resulted in numerous casualties.

Baghdad, 21 March 2017 - The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the “cowardly” terrorist bombing in Baghdad’s southwestern al-Amil district on Monday 20 March 2017 in which scores of civilians were reported killed or injured.

Baghdad, 09 March 2017 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the attack by explosive belts which targeted a wedding party in the village of al-Hijjaj north of Tikrit in Salaheddin Governorate in which dozens were killed or injured on Wednesday 08 March 2017.

22 February 2017: The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the cowardly and heinous terrorist attack which took place in Baghdad, Iraq on February 16, during which at least 50 people were killed and many more injured. The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, and to the people and the Government of Iraq. They wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

Baghdad, Iraq, 24 November 2016 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist truck bombing near the City of Hilla in the Governorate of Babylon in southern Iraq today which killed or wounded scores of innocent people, many of them reportedly returning from pilgrimage to Karbala.

Baghdad, Iraq, 15 October 2016 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) strongly condemns the suicide bombing today in northern Baghdad and other terrorist attacks in other areas of the country which killed or injured many civilians.

Baghdad, 12 July 2016 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, condemns the suicide truck bombing at a crowded vegetable and fruit market in the northeastern Baghdad district of Al-Rashidiyah today in which many civilians were killed or wounded.

Baghdad, 08 July 2016 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the attack which targeted the Shia shrine of Seyyed Mohammad in Balad north of Baghdad on Thursday 07 July 2016 in which many innocent people were killed or wounded.

5 July 2016: The members of the Security Council strongly deplored the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack perpetrated in the city of Baghdad, Iraq, on July 2, 2016, which resulted in at least 200 people killed and many injured, for which ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant/Da’esh) has claimed responsibility.

The members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, to the people and Government of Iraq, and they wished speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

The members of the Security Council stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of terrorism, terrorist organizations and individual terrorists, in accordance with resolutions 2199 (2015) and 2253 (2015).

The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice. They stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable, and urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with all relevant authorities in this regard.

The members of the Security Council reiterated that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation and wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed, and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization, or ethnic group. They reaffirmed the need for all States to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
