13 September 2018, Erbil, Iraq - The Kurdistan Region Statistics Office (KRSO), UNFPA, and IOM launched today the demographic survey of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), one of the largest statistical exercises conducted in the region since 1987.

Baghdad, Iraq - Date: 13 September 2018: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, completes a year-long series of activities this month, supporting 130,000 vulnerable Iraqis as they take the first steps on the road to recovery, thanks to the generous donation of £9 million from the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Erbil, Iraq, 11 September 2018 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq Ján Kubiš visited Sulaymaniyah and Erbil, where he met with leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Gorran, New Generation Movement and the Coalition for Democracy and Justice (CDJ). Today, he was received in Erbil by Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masud Barzani and met separately with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.

On Thursday 6 September 2018, Mr Ramanathan Balakrishnan, UNFPA Representative to Iraq, called upon H.E. Dr. Mahdi Al Alak, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers.

Baghdad, Iraq, 9 September 2018 – A meeting with women leaders, former MPs and former Ministers, civil society and youth activists facilitated by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) pressed for robust participation of women in negotiations for government formation and for holding key ministerial posts in the next Cabinet.

(Baghdad/New York, 06 September 2018): The Special Adviser and Head of the United Nations investigative team to promote accountability for Da’esh / ISIL crimes (UNITAD) under UNSCR 2379, Mr. Karim Khan, recently visited Iraq during which he heard first-hand the heart-wrenching accounts of survivors of Da’esh’s violence. Mr. Khan stressed the need to ensure that survivors of conflict-related violence are protected, their interests advanced, and that perpetrators of these heinous crimes be brought to justice.

Baghdad, 5 September 2018 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, expresses grave concern over the casualties during violent protests over the lack of critical public services in Basra. He offers condolences to the families of the dead and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

Erbil, 4 September 2018 – For the first time in nearly four years, the number of displaced Iraqis has fallen below two million, according to a milestone IOM Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) report released today (04/09).
