Baghdad, 07 November 2017 – The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) takes note of the statement released by the Federal Court Spokesperson announcing that the High Federal Court in its session on 06 November 2017 issued a ruling clarifying Article 1 of the Constitution and noting that the court concluded that this article and other pertinent Constitutional articles have underlined the unity of Iraq. The Spokesperson also noted that the High Federal Court ruling established that no text in the Constitution allows the secession of any of its components listed in Article 116 of the Constitution under its current rulings.

Baghdad, 5 November 2017 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) welcomes a renewed contribution of EUR 7 million from the Government of Germany for survey and clearance of explosive hazards, including improvised explosive devices and explosive remnants of war, in Iraq. The support will facilitate rehabilitation of infrastructure in areas retaken from ISIL/Da’esh, assist the stabilization process and allow for the safe return of displaced persons to their communities.

Baghdad, 30 October 2017 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) condemns the killing of a journalist in Kirkuk Governorate today. UNAMI also condemns the assault against a journalist on Sunday in Erbil that left him injured, as well as intimidation and violence against members of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Parliament and political offices in the Kurdistan Region.

Basra, 28 October 2017 – A roundtable of politicians, tribal representatives, religious leaders, academics and civil society activists from across southern Iraq discussed ways to contribute to the National Settlement in the post-Daesh future of their country, with participants stressing the importance of ending divisions while voicing their views on how to achieve it.

Baghdad, 26 October 2017 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) held a certification ceremony for 14 mine action personnel from the Directorate of Mine Action at the Ministry of Health and Environment and nine mine action implementing partners, following their completion of the ‘risk education managerial skills’ workshop to respond to explosive hazard threat in retaken areas in Iraq.

Baghdad, 23 October 2017 - FAO has launched an emergency animal health campaign across Iraq's Mosul area, which was recently retaken from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Baghdad, 25 October 2017 – The Government of New Zealand has contributed an additional US$1 million to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Stabilization (FFS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). This brings the New Zealand’s total contribution to FFS to $2 million to date.
