Baghdad, Iraq, 8 April 2018 - The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Ján Kubiš, strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist suicide bombings which targeted the offices of the Al-Hal political party in the city of Heet in Anbar Governorate and caused a number of casualties, including lightly injuring a female candidate running for the Council of Representatives elections.

Baghdad, 03 April 2018:The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China visited the UNHCR office in Baghdad today to mark the completion of activities to support Syrian refugees funded by China with a US$ 2 million donation.

Baghdad, Iraq, 2 April 2018 --- The World Health Organization (WHO) has welcomed a contribution of 500,000 euros from the Government of Italy to support the rehabilitation services for people who suffered disabilities as a result of the conflict in Mosul.

Further to the UN electoral needs assessment mission (NAM) deployed in November 2017, a follow-up assessment mission was conducted from 4-11 March 2018 to review preparations for the Council of Representatives (CoR) elections on 12 May 2018. The mission met with a wide range of national and international interlocutors, including the CoR, the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), political parties, civil society organizations, the judiciary, and the international community, including the UN family.

BAGHDAD, 28 March 2018 – As Iraq emerges from four years of conflict and unrest, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed a US$10 million contribution from the Government of Japan in support of recovery efforts. A portion of this contribution will also support Syrian refugees sheltering in Iraq.

Baghdad, 28 March 2018 – The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) welcomes the contribution of USD 4.5 million from the Government of Japan to support the UNMAS Iraq emergency response related to on-going humanitarian and stabilization efforts in liberated areas contaminated with explosive hazards. Close to 2.3 million people are still displaced. Schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, electrical power stations and water treatment plants are still contaminated by explosive hazards in liberated areas.

Baghdad, 23 March 2018 --- Japan has renewed its commitment to the work WHO does in the Republic of Iraq by meeting lifesaving needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in the governorates of Ninewa, Erbil and Duhok.

BAGHDAD, 21 March 2018 – A handover ceremony was held today to mark the completion of the project to “Improve the Impact and Effectiveness of Community Police in the Newly Liberated Areas in Iraq”. The project was funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in cooperation with the Government of Iraq.
