This Security Council meeting takes place just days after the Iraq Reconstruction Conference, so generously co-hosted by H. H. Emir of Kuwait, thus showing once again his and his country’s commitment to the humanitarian, peace and development cause in the region and in the world.

Baghdad, 20 February 2018 – One in 10 internally displaced persons (IDPs) not planning to return home cites explosive hazards as the reason.

14 February 2018 - On the occasion of the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq, held in Kuwait City from 12 to 14 February, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay today announced the launch of a flagship initiative to revive the spirit of Mosul. The objective, to coordinate international efforts in this direction.

Kuwait City, 14 February 2018: It was [inaudible] to convene a conference mobilizing [inaudible] necessary to respond to that terrible humanitarian drama.

Kuwait- The World Bank Group and the Government of Iraq signed two projects today totaling US$510 million to help the Iraqi people by improving living conditions, enhancing water supplies, and creating jobs. The two projects along with the ongoing US$750 million Emergency Operation for Development program and other planned commitments, will increase the World Bank’s total commitment to Iraq to US$4.7 billion, compared to US$600 million four years ago.

I am delighted to be here with you today to discuss the reconstruction of Iraq, a country that has suffered so much and that has so much to contribute to the world.

Kuwait City/Baghdad/New York (14 February 2018) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres launched the Iraq Recovery and Resilience Programme today at the Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq. The two-year Recovery and Resilience Programme is designed to fast-track the social dimensions of reconstruction and help ensure that people see tangible improvements in their daily lives at the start of the reconstruction process, rather than waiting years to benefit from large-scale infrastructure projects and structural reforms.

Kuwait City, 13 February 2018– Lives and livelihoods in Iraq’s liberated areas are being restored at long last.
