Baghdad-27 July 2008- The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) condemns the killing of Soran Hama and extends its deep condolences to his family. Mr. Hama, a journalist with Levin magazine in Kirkuk, was murdered on Monday, 21 July 2008 by gunmen in front of his house. It calls on Iraqi and KRG authorities to conduct a thorough and prompt investigation into his murder, apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
UNAMI is alarmed that journalists in Iraq continue to be targeted undermining the integrity of the press and freedom of expression in the country. Hama's murder adds to the long list of the dozens of journalists murdered Iraq since 2003.
