UNAMI condemns attack against primary school in Anbar

Baghdad, 24 September  2012 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, condemned in the strongest terms the bombing of a primary school in Anbar today in which several children were reportedly killed. كوردی


“This is a shocking act of violence against the innocent,” Mr. Kobler said. “For schools to be attacked is a despicable crime and we are particularly distressed to learn that some of the victims were young children,” he added.


Today is the second day of the school year for over 9 million Iraqi children. UNAMI has understood from initial reports that some of the young victims were just starting the first grade.


“Whether the school was intended as the target or not, no child should pay the price for violence carried out at the hands of criminals. I repeat my condemnation of this terrible attack,” said Mr. Kobler.
