Mosul Situation: WHO Takes Action

ERBIL, 12 JUNE, 2014 - With the fast evolvement of Mosul crisis and the spill over to Diyala and Salahadeen governorates, WHO response came fast covering the following areas:


  •  Medical Supplies: WHO shipped the following supplies to Directorate of Health in Dohuk: two IHEK , two supplementary kits, two Cholera kits, and Trauma kit A & B for the treatment of injuries. 
  •  Vaccination: WHO started immediate vaccination activities with DOHs Dohuk and Erbil especially on Polio and Measles.
  •  Surveillance: WHO mobilized its Cholera team to strengthen the EWARN  in KRG & Mosul
  •  Rapid Assessment: WHO is coordinating efforts with the inter-UN Agency team for rapid assessment and will use the same tools used recently to conduct this assessment with the Ministry of Health in Abu Gharib district in Baghdad. WHO complete guidance and support are guaranteed for the implementation of the assessment.
  •  Service Delivery: WHO is working to ensure that the IDPs  have access to optimum health services and is supporting DOH Dohuk with the essential public health functions in emergency as well as mobile clinics if the KRG government decided on. 
  •  Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Promotion: WHO took immediate measures to monitor this area given it is the key for preventing epidemics.
