Helping develop human rights legal framework in Iraq

AMMAN –A legislative task force has been set up by the Iraq High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) in September 2014, with the support from the European Union and UNOPS.

The group was formed to make rules on internal procedures and policies, in line with international best practices.

Launched in Amman, Jordan, the initiative is considered an important step towards establishing a legal framework for the IHCHR.

The task force was established within the context of the Independent High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq Programme, which was designed to develop the Commission's capacity, in cooperation with the European Union.

In its role, UNOPS is responsible for enhancing the capacity of relevant human rights committees in the Council of Representatives and providing direct support to the IHCHR over a two-year period.
