On Easter Day, UN envoy conveys his warm greetings to the Christian community

Baghdad, 5 April 2015 – On behalf of the United Nations family in Iraq, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Ján Kubiš, conveys his warm greetings to the Christian community in Iraq on the occasion of Easter Day.

“May this Holy day which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, bring back solace and happiness to the hearts of the Christian community who, together with many others in Iraq, has suffered indescribable acts of barbarism and has seen their community destroyed as a result of last year’s onslaught by the ISIL terrorist group”, Mr. Kubiš said.

“I wholeheartedly wish that this current terrible suffering will soon end and that all those who were forced to flee their towns and cities where their ancestors have lived for centuries will soon be able to return and live in peace and harmony with their families, friends and neighbours”, Mr. Kubiš added.
