WHO: Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Kyung-wha Kang
WHAT: Mission to Iraq
WHEN: 28-30 November 2015
WHERE: Iraq– Including Baghdad and Erbil

Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Kyung-wha Kang will visit Iraq from 28 to 30 November 2015.

The Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator is expected to meet senior Iraqi and Kurdish officials and visit a site for displaced Iraqis in both Baghdad and Erbil. The visit will focus on how humanitarian organizations can support the Government of Iraq to provide assistance to those who need it.

Iraq faces a complex, and growing humanitarian crisis. About 3.2 million Iraqis have been displaced since January 2014 and over 10 million are in need of some form of humanitarian assistance. Close to 400,000 people are in urgent need of shelter assistance this winter, while at least 780,000 lack essential household and other life-sustaining items. To urgently address the growing needs across the country, the humanitarian community will launch the 2016 Humanitarian Response Plan for Iraq in December.
