Kobler welcomes dialogue between KRG and Baghdad, says talks should lead to true partnership

Baghdad, 28 April 2013 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Martin Kobler, welcomes the scheduled meeting between Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and the Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Nichervan Barzani on Monday 29 April in Baghdad.

“At this critical juncture, sitting together and talking in a constructive spirit is the best way to overcome problems," Mr. Kobler said. “Both parties need to address once and for all outstanding issues such as true partnership, security, budget and revenue sharing, in a transparent and frank manner,” the UN envoy added. “I truly hope this meeting will contribute to finding long-lasting solutions based on the Constitution to overcome Iraq’s current crisis, and to the Kurdish ministers rejoining the Cabinet soon,” Mr. Kobler stressed.
