15 May is the International Day of Families which aims to highlight the importance of the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development (SDG4) through promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence.

As women continue to seek for better and equal paying jobs and leadership positions in order to empower them to make socio-economic and political decisions, there is a strong need for them to fight against negative phenomena, such as corruption, which could deter their progress in achieving gender equality by 2030.

Iraq, 31 March 2017 - On what he called a “visit of solidarity” with Iraq, Secretary-General António Guterres appealed for more international assistance to the country, welcomed the Government’s commitment to protection of civilians in the fight against Daesh and to national reconciliation, and pledged continued support of the United Nations as the Government seeks to bolster humanitarian aid to the needy and rebuild Iraqi institutions.
