21 December 2020, Baghdad, Iraq – The Netherlands has committed USD $6,41 million to support UNICEF and The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to ensure that almost a million residents of Basra governorate have access to safe water.

IRAQ - UNHCR welcomes the recent contribution of 9 million Swedish Krona (~ USD 1 million) towards UNHCR's protection and assistance programmes to support vulnerable displaced persons in Iraq. This is in addition to the 10 million Swedish Krona (~USD 1.17 million) previously granted towards UNHCR operations in Iraq, bringing Sweden’s total contribution in 2020 by the Kingdom of Sweden to 19 million Swedish Krona (~ USD 2.23 million).

Supported by the Government of the Netherlands, the collaboration will help generate decent jobs for forcibly displaced persons and host community members in Iraq through water irrigation maintenance and solid waste management.

Baghdad, 16 December 2020 – The World Health Organization (WHO) has today handed over essential medical supplies to the Iraqi Ministry of Health to strengthen its capacity to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

16 December 2020; Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq - The Ministry of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government, through the Directorate of Health in Erbil, with UNFPA and in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs opened today the first disability-friendly reproductive health facilities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Tuesday, December 15, 2020, Baghdad — The Government of Iraq, the European Union’s Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (EU-DEVCO) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are expanding their partnership to support economic development and sustainable job creation in Iraq, in particular through targeted efforts in the agricultural sector.

Baghdad, 11 December 2020 – Denmark has signed an agreement to provide financial support to the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).

Iraq launches Youth, Peace & Security Coalition

11 December 2020; Baghdad, Iraq - On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the 2250 UN Security Council Resolution, Iraq launched the National Coalition for Youth, Peace, Security, under the auspices of the Minister of Youth & Sports, Adnan Darjal.

With the support of Germany, UNITAD is undertaking investigations into the financial aspects of ISIL crimes and the financial mechanisms that either supported or enabled perpetrators to profit from ISIL’s grave violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Baghdad, 10 December 2020 – Special Adviser Karim A. A. Khan QC today presented his fifth report to the United Nations Security Council on the activities of the United Nations Investigative Team to promote accountability for crimes committed by Da’esh / Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
