Najaf, 16 March 2014 - A joint UN delegation headed by Iraq Public Sector Modernization Joint Management Unit led by UNDP and representatives from UNICEF, WHO, UNWOMEN, UNHABITAT and UNESCO conducted a one day field mission to Najaf on 16 March 2014 to meet with the Administrative Reform Committee in the Governorate.

Baghdad, 12 March 2014 – Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, today urged the political leaders of Iraq to put their differences aside and work together to address the terrorist threat that seeks to tear the fabric of Iraqi society. 

Baghdad, 11 March 2014: Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and UNDP announced a reinforcement agreement to strengthen their partnership and accelerate the implementation of infrastructure and economic development projects in Iraq to improve the economic recovery and living condition of Iraqi people in key sectors such as electricity, water and sanitation, oil, irrigation, transportation, industry, health and communication. 

Amman, Jordan, 8 March, 2014. In collaboration and partnership with the Iraqi Ministry of Health, The World Health Organization for Iraq organized a workshop on the medium-term budgeting framework (MTBF) in Amman, Jordan from 5-7 march 2014. The workshop was attended by senior finance and management personnel from the Ministries of Health, Finance, & Planning from both Central and Kurdistan Governments.  

March 8th marks a special day in the history of refugee reproductive health services. It is on this day in Kurdistan Region in Iraq (Dahuk, Domiz) that the first personal reproductive health booklet makes its debut. The booklets purpose is to remedy the needs of the Syrian refugee women.  In honor of this proud accomplishment, due to the efforts of the Ministry of Health along with the strong support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) ceremony took place in Dahuk-Domiz camp to launch this innovative booklet.

Baghdad, 8 March 2014 – On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov welcomed the fact that Iraq, despite uneven progress, is one of the countries in the Middle East that has been in the forefront of empowering women.  “The full integration of women in Iraqi society is one of the keys to stability, tolerance and democracy.  No society can call itself inclusive if man and women are not treated equally before the law and if the constitutionally guaranteed rights of women are not observed”, Mr. Mladenov said.

Baghdad, 7 March 2014 –In its continued efforts to scale up humanitarian assistance to the displaced and stranded families affected by the ongoing military operations in Anbar Province, United Nations humanitarian convoys started reaching this week Amariyat Al-Fallujah, a region it had difficulty to access so far. 

Baghdad, 6 March 2014 – The United Nations in Iraq today joined the Government of Iraq, the Iraqi State Ministry for Women Affairs, and several hundred individuals from Iraqi women’s organisations and civil society in celebrating International Women’s Day at an event held at the Sheraton Hotel in Baghdad.

Baghdad, 05 March 2014 - The United Nations Iraq and the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement today launched an appeal to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the ongoing fighting in Anbar Province. The Strategic Response Plan will benefit up to 240,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as well as those within host communities, and those stranded in conflict affected areas in Anbar province. The plan calls for USD 103.7 million to cover the provision of assistance in Non Food Items/Shelter, Protection, Health, Food, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, and Logistics.
