The Secretary-General strongly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Iraq, including against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday. He extends his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a full recovery.

Baghdad, 5 February 2014 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov condemns in the strongest terms the heinous aggression against the Foreign Ministry of Iraq today, which killed and injured a number of people.

Baghdad, 1 February 2014 – Launching the World Interfaith Harmony Week (1-7 February) today, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Iraq, Mr. Nickolay Mladenov participated in a cultural festival at Saint Joseph Syriac Catholic Church,  together with religious leaders of different communities, Youth and Civil Society representatives, as well as Iraqis from different neighbourhoods and faiths. 

Baghdad, 31 January 2014 – Yesterday the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, visited Kerbala to thank the Governate for the hospitality extended to hundreds of displaced families from Anbar, as well as to assess their needs and ways of addressing them.  He met with Mr. Aqil Tureihi, Governor of Kerbala, Mr. Nseif Khatabi, Chairman of the Provincial Council, and Shaikh Abdel-Mehdi Al-Karbala'y, General Secretary of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain.  

Baghdad, 26 January 2014, After months of studies and continuous consultations, UNESCO officials and main stakeholders from the government of Iraq met in Baghdad to announce the launch of the "National Teacher Training Strategy"; another technical revelation in the process of driving teacher education and training reform and innovation in Iraq. 

Baghdad, 22 January 2014 – Head of the European Union Delegation in Iraq, Ambassador Jana Hybáškova, and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG) Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, today launched the “Capacity Building of the Human rights Related Committees in the Council of Representatives and the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights”. 

Baghdad, 21 January 2014 – Following an exponential increase in the number of displaced and stranded families by the ongoing fighting in several cities and towns in the province of Anbar, and their growing needs, the United Nations in Iraq is scaling up its support to the humanitarian response. 

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released the Half Yearly Report on Human Rights, covering the period from January to June 2013.

Baghdad, 17 January 2014 - In his speech at the Iraqi Women and Social Peace Conference, hosted by Iraqi Vice-President Dr. Khudair al-Khuzaei today, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (DSRSG), Mr. Gyorgy Busztin, called on all political, religious, and civil leaders to work together as one to address the challenges the country is facing.

Baghdad, 16 January 2014 – The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG), Mr. Nickolay Mladenov, strongly deplored the continued targeting of innocent civilians, including mourners at a funeral, in another bloody day that left dozens of people killed and injured across Baghdad and central Iraq.
