Baghdad, 18 April 2015. In response to the intensifying humanitarian crisis in Anbar Province west of Iraq, and the displacement of thousands of Anbar residents who escaped the conflict in the provincial capital of Ramadi to Baghdad, WHO has been working closely with the Ministry of Health over the past four days to coordinate rapid response action to provide emergency health access to the newly displaced population reported to be stuck in Rudhwaniya area, waiting to cross Al Rudwaniya Bridge.

Erbil, 8 April 2015 – In another major step to improve access to quality education in Iraq and  bring a sense of normalcy and stability to the lives of Iraqi IDPs, UNESCO and its partners celebrated today with students and teachers the opening of the newly constructed Dawodiyah Secondary School for internally displaced persons at Dawodiyah Camp in Dohouk, Kurdistan. 

Through the support of the Government of Japan, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) in Iraq launched a project to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country to enhance self-reliance and improve living conditions of IDPs through provision of prefabricated durable shelters and basic services in the shelter sites in Baghdad, Dohuk and Kerbala Governorates.
