Erbil, 20 October, 2016 – UNICEF this week managed to reach Al Houd, a town just south of Mosul that was retaken by Iraqi security forces just two days prior, and deliver clean water to some of the thousands of families that have been caught up in this conflict.

(Baghdad, 17 October 2016): The intensification of military operations to retake the city of Mosul from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) could affect up to 1.5 million people in the city. Up to 1 million girls, boys, women and men may be forced from their homes, of which up to 700,000 may be in need of shelter assistance. Up to 200,000 people may be displaced in the first weeks of the operations. The humanitarian community, UN Agencies and NGOs, have been planning and readying assistance for months.

Baghdad, Iraq, 15 October 2016 - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, has begun a four-day visit to Iraq, as the country faces a worsening humanitarian situation and as military developments in Mosul could result in one of the largest man-made displacement crises in many years.

Iraq, 4 October 2016 – The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has provided funding for IOM to implement a project to contribute to stabilization of conflict-affected communities in Diyala governorate, Iraq.

(Baghdad, 19 September 2016): Humanitarian agencies are rushing to prepare for hundreds of thousands of civilians who are expected to flee from Mosul during the upcoming military campaign to oust the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) from Iraq’s second largest city.

Iraq, Sulaimanyiah - 4 August 2016: UNHCR in Iraq welcomes new funding announced by the Government of Italy of €441,500 to help support the restoration of essential infrastructure in Diyala Governorate. The project aims to provide infrastructural support to restore public services, helping to facilitate the reintegration of returning displaced Iraqis in Saadiya and Jalawla districts - areas which were briefly captured by extremist groups in late 2014. The conflict displaced around 20,000 families who fled to Khanaqin and surrounding governorates.

Baghdad, 9 August 2016– The Kingdom of Norway has contributed an additional US$3 million to UNDP’s Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS), which finances fast-track initiatives in areas liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). With this contribution, Norway has channelled $10.7 million to UNDP's FFIS during 2016.

Iraq - As winter temperatures set in across Iraq, IOM is distributing fuel for use in kerosene heaters to vulnerable refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities. These people, many of whom are facing long-term or multiple displacements and hardship, are often unable to afford the fuel needed to keep themselves warm.

(Geneva, 7 December 2015): More than 125 million people in the world need humanitarian assistance. Through collective and coordinated action, aid organisations aim to bring urgent help to more than 87.6 million of the most vulnerable and marginalized of them in 2016. This will require a record US$20.1 billion in funding – five times the amount a decade ago.
