Baghdad, 31 May 2017: The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are extremely concerned about the health conditions of about 180 000 men, women and children that are reportedly still trapped inside west Mosul’s old city where access to health care services has been limited.

Erbil, Iraq, 24 April 2017 - The demand for emergency referral services in west Mosul continues daily. More than 1,900 trauma cases from west Mosul have received medical care in hospitals in Ninewa and neighboring governorates. As military operations reach the densely populated parts of Mosul city, health partners anticipate a significant increase in the number of war related casualties. Ensuring timely referrals and transport from the frontlines to trauma stabilization points and field hospitals is critical to sparing civilian lives. Ambulances provide a 24/7 response to medical and trauma related emergencies while lessening the tedious travel hours spent by patients on the roads.

Mosul, Iraq 28 March 2017: With medical capacities to treat severely wounded people significantly reduced due to conflict and coupled with the increased trend of traumatic injuries amongst civilians, the World Health Organization, the Federal Ministry of Health and Ninewa Department of Health has opened a trauma field hospital (FH) in Athba.

20 March 2017, Erbil, Iraq: The World Health Organization with logistic support from the World Food Programme airlifted 15 fully equipped ambulances in order to strengthen the response to the increasing trauma and medical related emergencies in west Mosul. These ambulances will enhance trauma care at the frontlines and ensure timely referral to field hospitals.
