UNHCR and its partners have been providing assistance for families who have fled their homes in Kirkuk and other disputed areas pre-emptively over the past few days, fearing large-scale clashes.
Erbil/Sulaymaniyah, 19 October 2017 - UNAMI Human Rights Office conducted on 16-19 October a specialized training and round table discussion in Kurdistan Region of Iraq on “Follow up on Universal Periodic Review in Line with the Regional Plan of Action (RPA) and UN Human Rights Treaty Bodies Recommendations” for representatives of civil society organizations.
Erbil/Sulaymaniyah, 19 October 2017 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) Human Rights Office has conducted a training in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for teachers to enhance their capacity on teaching human rights in schools.
The members of the Security Council expressed concern over recent reports of violence near the city of Kirkuk, Iraq.
(Baghdad, 17 October 2017): In the past 48 hours, an estimated 61,200 people have been displaced in areas around Kirkuk. Humanitarian partners have dispatched mobile health clinics and are providing hot meals and food parcels to families who have fled. In coming days, partners will be providing 3,000 emergency food rations and hygiene items to families sheltering in public spaces.
