“Iraqi Youth: Pioneers for Dialogue and Stability” workshops held in Diyala

Baqouba, Iraq, 23 September 2019 - Under the theme “Iraqi Youth: Pioneers for Dialogue and Stability”, the 11th in a series of workshops to gauge the views and concerns of youth across the country took place in Diyala Governorate on 20-22 September 2019. The workshop was organised by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in cooperation with the Committee for Coexistence and Societal Peace under the Prime Minister’s Office and the Iraqi Al-Amal Association.

Baghdad, 29 August 2019 - The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq warmly welcomed the return by the Government of Iraq today of a large consignment of Kuwaiti property, removed from Kuwait during the conflict of 1990-91. The repatriation of the property marks another important step towards the full normalisation of relations between the two countries.

New York / Baghdad, 29 August 2019 – Briefing the UN Security Council on the situation in Iraq, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, urged the international community to continue its critical support for Iraq’s post-conflict recovery. She welcomed the government’s multilateral diplomacy efforts in the context of regional tensions, and called on Iraq’s political actors to work together to tackle priorities, including placing all arms under state control, strengthening institution-building and enacting reforms.

Baghdad, 28 August 2019 – The Government of Iraq has today signed an historic agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), committing USD 33 million for stabilization activities across the country.
